Hudetz Wedding Photography Colorado Blog bio picture

Welcome to my Blog!

Thank you for stopping by my blog. This is the best place to catch up on recent photography news as it relates to my photographic efforts. As you can surmise from my website I am primarily focused on wedding photography. Here you'll see, besides wedding activity,  other assignment work I do well as personal projects. I hope exploring my entries can give you a better insight of who I am as a photographer. I am grateful for all the support I receive from people around me, personally and professionally. Special thanks and recognition goes to my amazing studio manager, Austin, who keeps making me look good and Lauren who crafts our in-house custom album designs.  And the deepest thanks goes to my beautiful wife Elizabeth who supports me in so many ways and plays the role of muse in my life.

Three more International Wedding Photography Awards

I’ve heard things come in threes sometimes, and recently I was awarded three more International Photography Awards for 2011 work. The International Wedding Photojournalist Association, parent company to The International Artistic Guild Wedding Photojournalist Association, who I also received three different awards from last month, has now awarded me three awards in pure photojournalism work for 2011. I was humbled and honored to receive  3rd place in the Weather category, 7th place in the Emotion Category and 7th place in the Parents Category. Here are screen shots of the winning pictures and judges comments. I want to also mention that Colorado did extremely well in this competition with several of my close collegues scoring in the competition.

Three International Awards from Artistic Guild of Wedding Photojournalists

I was recently awarded three awards by The Artistic Guild Wedding Photojournalist Association. I was one of 16 American photographers, and the only one from Colorado,  recognized among 116 International Photographers. It’s always a humbling and yet validating experience to receive recognition like this. These awards were for images taken in 2011. I received 2nd place in the Details(Found) category and both 3rd and 7th place in the Weather category. Twenty awards were given out in each of eight wedding photography categories. Here are the screen shots ,with judges comments, of my three winning pictures.

New Orleans Wedding

I was honored to photograph Pearce and Greg’s wedding in New Orleans with the talented photographer Zach Goodyear from Nashville, TN. The ceremony was held at The Trinity Episcopal Church and the reception was hosted at The New Orleans Country Club. The desert table was amazing. A sad note on the day, even with the bride cheering for her New Orleans Saints football team, they lost. Here are a few of my favorite images of the day.

March 22, 2012 - 10:44 am Fernando Colaço - Great photos, John. The first one with those pastel texture and tones is amazing. The last one: match at the wedding, sometimes I have that too, but with soccer. Keep doing the good work.

Colorado Springs New Wedding Venue

I had the honor of being invited to do a style photo shoot for Colorado Springs newest wedding venue - The Carter-Payne. Shooting with me were three of Colorado’s finest wedding photographers; Sean CaytonKent Meireis, and Hardy Klahold. Making the shoot extra special were Claire and Nathan, our photogenic and fun couple for the afternoon. We had a great dress from Springs Bridal and Ballroom and beautiful flowers from Design Works A Floral Studio. Doing hair and make-up was Felicia Popescu. Here is a collection of some of my pictures from the day.

April 12, 2012 - 8:47 am Mario Caputa - Great photography. I'm a big fun.

February 19, 2012 - 12:34 pm Sandra Vanderstoep - WOW! Terrific shoot--thank you, thank you...Sandy

February 18, 2012 - 9:21 pm Cayton Photography - What a great shoot. LOVE the pictures John! You have a wonderful eye. The Carter-Payne is just fantastic, no?

Fun Downtown Denver Wedding – Morgen & Tom

We had a great time photographing Morgen and Tom’s fun wedding downtown Denver this past summer. The Denver Grand Hyatt  served as wedding headquarters with getting ready, First Look pre ceremony pictures and a gala reception. Marta Russell and her staff made  things run smoothly. The wedding itself happened at St Elizabeth’s on the Auraria Campus. Ann Marlin of cloud 9 Weddings & Papers helped co-ordinate the entire day. And helping me out was my wonderful wife, Elizabeth, and my most able 2nd shooter, Ben Lamarca. Here is the custom in-house album design done by our 3 year resident designer, extraordinairre, Lauren.

October 27, 2011 - 3:25 pm RedSphere Wedding Photographer - Wow, beautiful work! Amazing colors throughout and great use of location!

Classic Colorado Ranch Wedding

Amy and Nick had the classic Colorado family ranch wedding this past summer out near Rifle, Colorado. Amy got dressed in the old settelers cabin on the each property adjacent to a beautiful Colorado meadow where the ceremony took place as well as the tented reception. Wedding photography in Colorado like this is the ultimate joy for the photographer.

It was such an honor to photograph this couple along with my assistant/2nd shooter Ben, who contributed immensely to the images of the day.

Here are some of my favorites.

Miami Museum of The Americas features my work in International Exhibit

So, I’m flattered that International Museum Curator Oscar Poliotto of Argentina has included my Cuban photography in an art show in Miami at The Museum of the Americas. I’m included with 40 top International artists. Here is my featured image of the show and below it is the official invite to the show. Even though I’m primarily known for my wedding photography, Colorado and elsewhere, I have been getting more attention recently for some of my fine art photography and personal work.

A little back story on this image. This is on the Malecon Boulevard of Havana, Cuba in May 2002. The Malecon reminds me a bit of of Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. I was riding on the back of another motorcycle on my way to Old Havana and this couple passed by me. Luckily I was able to get a shot off from my ancient CANON 60D. It’s always been a favorite of mine.

The exhibit runs from July 8 – July 22, 2011.

Asheville, NC Wedding for Lindsay & Marcus

What’s a wedding photographer from Colorado doing in Asheville, NC? I was so blessed being asked to photograph Lindsay and Marcus’s wedding  in Asheville. We had a beautiful day with the ceremony atop Crest Mountain. I also have my album designer and part-time 2nd shooter Lauren to thank for assisting me. I hope I get to do more weddings in North Carolina, especially for such nice people like Lindsay and Marcus. Lindsay got her hair and make-up done in a very funky multi-use warehouse building in the art district of Asheville. It made for some different type of bridal portraits, which I had fun doing.

Here are some of my favorite pictures of the day. To see a slideshow of the entire day, click here.

October 12, 2011 - 10:32 am Best Denver wedding photographers - Subtle and beautiful portrait of the bride (The B&W shot).

Denver Wedding Photography for Elizabeth & Jake

A few months back we got to photograph a wonderful Denver Italian wedding where Elizabeth and Jake represented their two Italian families at The Denver Grand Hyatt Hotel . We got to know Elizabeth and Jake last Fall when we photographed their engagement shoot in Rocky Mountain National Park outside Estes Park, Colorado.

Elizabeth and Jake took advantage of the The Denver Grand Hyatt’s opulent facilities by having both their wedding ceremony and their reception held on the top floors of the Grand Hyatt Tower. Marta Russell and her staff of The Grand Hyatt made the day run smoothly.

Here are some of my favorite pictures of the day. If you would like to see a slideshow of the entire day, click here.

Hudetz Wedding Photography Colorado Engagement Shoot – Laurie & David

A few months back we met up with Laurie and David at The Oxford Hotel for an engagement shoot in the neighborhood to include Union Station. Laurie and David are getting married later this summer in Breckenridge, where we will be providing our wedding photography. Colorado is beautiful whether your downtown Denver or high in the Rockies. Here a re a few of my favorites from the shoot. Laurie and David are truly a lot of fun.
